Notes from Everland

Foreword:

Pilot project inspired by my blogs Whirld Dervish and Eagalic Music.

Concept started with the word Chronicles…and I found it had been used…as in Raincoast and Narnia Chronicles…and too old fashioned anyway. Then I thought of Letters, but that too is not accurate as these chapters will not be in the form of letters.

Lying awake last night I mused, what does a musician produce…and the word notes seemed to fall right into place.

I had been toying with the idea that for me this island is like Never Land from Peter Pan. As a home for me, it was Never meant to be, but now Is. Thanks to Karen and Chaya who encouraged and then had me shipped me over here when they saw I was dying in Vancouver.

As I sit in my new room which is really like a small studio, overlooking the bay, I can’t help but think that the little boats anchored there are reminiscent of Pirate Ships. And so...at long last I have returned to my childhood dream: Never Land, like Michael Jackson or Peter Pan, living on borrowed time but wanting to make use of that time.

And no it is not Never Land, but Ever Land!

It is now my new focus to help me channel my writing [which now my music] to produce daily notes. And I may segue to Note Pad from now on just to make sure the entries are in basic text form. But maybe not! After all, this is a work in progress.

I was inspired in this by Danny Dang who got me started on Eagalic Music in blog form, Tony Clarke the English Poet friend of Ray and Gill Ginghofer who introduced me to him and whose little room in Chelsea has become a template for me…[just the clothes and a typewriter thank you very much], Leonard Cohen whose drive and focus over the years has inspired me to reach new heights, and to Karen the mother of my beautiful children, and to Chaya my oldest daughter who now has a son of her own.

And it was they who gave me this chance to redeem myself. Plus countless musicians, artists, writers, and lonely travelers on the path of life…who have each inspired me through their life work.

And I want to make special mention of my sister Marilyn who has supported me all my life and encouraged me when I was failing. She flew from Edmonton to Vancouver overnight when she heard I was in trouble and stayed with me for about a month, nursing me and cooking for me until I was ready to move.

And finally endless thanks to Karen my wife, though we are separated we remain married. She is the love of my life and without her help and support over the years, none of the changes in my later life would have ever happened.
